SDM: Quantization noise increase near edge of input range
Oct 09th, 2017, 10:08pm

I am wondering why quantization noise will increase when input is near the edge of the full range?

Is that because in that case the noise is not random enough to be effectively filtered?

Does all SDM suffer this issue?

Hi, Neo,

One clue in my mind is the quantifier effective gain becomes smaller when input approaches its MAX, which degrades the loop gain and increase the Q noise. This might apply to all SDM.
