SENIOR CMOS RF DESIGN ENGINEER: RX/TX/PLL

CMOS RF and analog design for high linearity, low noise wireless transceiver ICs for 3G wireless handset platforms.

Ericsson Mobile Platforms is a leading provider for complete mobile communications platforms across 2.5 and 3G standards. We provide common IC, reference design and software platforms for GSM/GPRS, EDGE and WCDMA terminals enabling state of the art power consumption and size.  We were one of the first companies in the world to license open-standard 2.5G and 3G technology platforms to manufacturers of mobile phones and other wireless information devices and are the market leader in WCDMA.

The IC development group has a charter of developing radio transceivers in advanced, fine-line CMOS semiconductor processes for our next generation platform offerings. In this function, we propose, specify and design innovative RF signal chain and data converter building blocks and complete transceiver ICs.  For more than ten years, we have maintained a track record in delivering high performance, low cost transceivers to the cell phone market.

To strengthen our design team, we are seeking a senior level CMOS RF designer with a proven track record in RFIC design for wireless.  We expect technical expertise in RF up/down conversion and frequency synthesis circuits with the ability to generate innovative architecture and design solutions with an understanding of AD and DA converters, discrete time circuits and analog base band signal processing.  In this position, you will work as part of our global IC development team, together with a multi-disciplinary team of systems engineering, hardware design and software engineering to ensure first-pass success prototypes and accurate system performance.

Responsibilities:

Development of receiver, transmitter and phase-locked loop blocks in fine-line CMOS.
Implementation of sub-circuits including LNAs, up/down conversion mixers, prescalers, charge pumps, XTAL oscillators.
Conduct both detailed system level design planning (Matlab) and circuit level simulation (Spectre).
Supervise, sub-circuit layout, floor-plan development and integration
Assist with pre- and post-layout chip verification
Design review document preparation and presentation
Tape-out document preparation
Specify requirements for circuit test, contribute to the IC test plan and design verification testing.  Conduct device failure analysis as required.
Contribute to peer-review activities and design reviews.
Act as a technical advisor to peers in your area of expertise. Actively participate in the dissemination of design know-how throughout the team.
Establish and maintain excellent working relationships with peers in design groups at our other locations.

Qualifications:

MSEE and 5+ years experience with in full custom analog/RF IC design.
Expertise with design RF up/down converters, PLLs, filters, and references.
Fluency with full-custom IC design flow from architecture to production, including hands-on experience with Cadence EDA tools for schematic capture, simulation, layout, LVS, DRC, ERC.
Ability to anticipate design behavior and generate abstract representations using high level modeling tools.
Knowledge of on-chip self-calibration techniques.
Understanding of analog layout techniques, coupling mechanisms, layout parasitics, and substrate shielding, supply routing techniques
Ability to use common RF measurement equipment and software.
Experience with working with external foundries and design kits.
Knowledge of hardware description languages and understanding of digital design flow ideal.
The individual must be inquisitive, thorough, well-organized, detail oriented, reliable, and willing and able to work with a diverse group of designers in multiple locations. We expect strong verbal and written communication skills.
Some domestic and international travel required.

Our commitment to excellence is reflected in our top of the line benefits including health & dental insurance, 401(k) plan with a company match, employee stock programs, vacation, personal and sick days, life and disability insurance, flexible spending accounts, discount vision plan and more.
